During my walk-around at the rental car facility this morning, I noticed that the reserved vehicle was covered in some kind of bird-nest debris, and that there was sizable damage to the hood, in the form of transferred paint contact.
Even though it cost me a few minutes of time, I switched to a different rental vehicle, to ensure I would not be blamed or held responsible for the existing damage.
The walkaround of the second vehicle passed visual inspection, so I proceeded with my travels.
