It was starting off as the road trip from hell. My eldest daughter (6) was home sick with sore throat Mon.-Tues. The strep test done at the doctor's office had come back negative. My husband had cough, chills, headache, sore throat since Mon. evening. Here is was Friday and we got the call that we had to drive from Charlotte, NC to Venice, FL as grandpa wasn't going to be with us much longer. So we packed up Nimrod the minivan and hit the road going south.
Nimrod was his usual self and needed fluids and air in the tire, delaying our progress through South Carolina. Just past Charleston (around 8 PM) we got a call from the pediatrician. The strep test they sent to the LAB had come back positive! They were calling us in a prescription for antibiotics.
The next morning, the baby (12 mos.) starts feeling feverish. The NC pharmacy called as we're passing through Georgia, prescription ready for pickup. We told them to transfer to Florida, we'll pick it up there - PLUS they have a "Minute Clinic" so we can get baby and husband examined at the same time.
SOOOO, there's a $200 office charge (each), and a 2-hour wait for Minute Clinic. So we figured we'd give that new Teladoc thing a try while we waited. We made appointments for 2 consults. and for $40 each they called us back within 10-15 minutes. 10 minutes of conversation with the doc and we had Infant Tylenol dosages for the baby's fever, and prescriptions for antibiotics for both baby and husband, and we were back on the road!
Moral of the story: REGISTER yourself and all your family members with Teladoc BEFORE you need to call (today would be a good time). Here's the link: www.teladoc.com/premera.
The Teladoc phone number is on the back of your Premera insurance card.
Really helpful to see how Teladoc worked in practice. It's an intriguing concept and you've shown how it can really save time and money. I'm now registered.
