2 children hit by SUV near Hawthorne Elementary
BOISE -- Two boys were hospitalized Wednesday morning after they were struck by an SUV near Hawthorne Elementary School.
Police say the children were walking to school in a crosswalk when they were hit in the intersection of South Vista Avenue and West Targee Street at about 7:15 a.m.
The driver of the SUV, a 24-year-old woman, was making a left turn from Targee Street onto northbound Vista Avenue when she hit the boys who were walking from east to west across Targee Street.
Police say ice on the drivers windshield likely obscured her vision and contributed to the crash. After they were hit, one of the boys returned to his home and told a parent what had happened. The parent then came out to the scene of the collision, according to police.
The children were taken to a nearby hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

ReplyDeleteMy first auto accident was my fault and the same reason. Fortunately all I hit was a parked car. But lesson learned, I thoroughly scrape the ice and regularly clean the inside of my windshield.
ReplyDeleteI was almost hit last year as a pedestrian crossing the street a few blocks from home. I realized to never assume the driver can see you and to either avoid walking into the street or get out of the car's way. When I looked more carefully, I realized the driver hadn't cleared enough window to see me.
