Counting Doors For Emergency Escape Route

Whenever I travel and stay in hotels rooms, the first thing I do after I am checked into my room. I plan an emergency escape route.  I leave my room and count the doorways to the nearest exit. If I happen to be on a non ground level floor I also count the number of stairs/landings to get to the ground floor. I do this because in case of an emergency, conditions change especially if there is a fire or the power is out.  Last night I was working in the room and started to think what happens if there is a fire between my room and the nearest exit.  So I went out into the hallway and counted the doorways to the other exit that is at the end of the hall. Needless to say I will start planning a secondary escape route when I check into my room.

In case you were wondering

Shortest emergency escape route= There are 3 doorways from my room to the stairway then I have to go down 8 stairs to a landing then 8 more stairs to another landing or (the 2nd floor). Followed by 8 more stairs to another landing, then another 8 stairs that put me on ground level, take a sharp right and there is an exit that leads to outside.

Secondary emergency escape route =There is 1 doorway then a large opening for the elevator hallway. Then there are 9 doorways to the stairway, and the exact same number of stairs and landing to the ground floor. But once I reach the ground floor I take a sharp left to the outside exit.
