Signs of a cardiac event

I just completed some online training for my CPR renewal certification on Thursday.  I realized last year we reviewed the steps of CPR in multiple safety meetings, but we should also review signs of and symptoms of a possible cardiac event.

Warning signs can vary from person to person and they may not always be sudden or severe. Although chest pain or discomfort is the most common symptom of a heart attack in both men and women, some people will not experience chest pain at all, while others will experience only mild chest pain or discomfort. Others may experience one symptom, while some experience a combination.

The Cardiac Chain of Survival includes:
  • Recognition and activation of 9-1-1
  • Early CPR
  • Early defibrillation
  • Early advanced medical care

  1. Gee, now I need to be extra alert about any jaw or back pain, for me or other women friends/family members. I didn't realize this was a potential signal for heart issues. Good to know!
