In addition to that, I found a simple list of recommendations, as part of your home winterization, at:
www.popularmechanics.com/home/how-to/g52/winterize-home-tips-energy-461008/
1. Dodge the Draft(s); replace weather stripping around doors, etc
2. Change furnace filters; once a month, during heating season
3. Run fans in reverse, to push warm air towards the floors
4. Winterize the A/C and Water Lines
5. Turn down your water heater; 120° F, instead of the typical 140° F
6. Install storm doors and windows
7. Give your heating system a tune-up
8. Mind the thermostat; set cycle times for higher and lower heating requirements
9. Put up plastic windows insulation
10. Use an energy monitor; find ways to reduce utility consumption
Many of these were new to me (need to get better about changing furnace filers monthly!) And I wonder why the water heater temp change. Anyone know?
