Checking the Rental Car over, before leaving the lot

On a recent trip to Denver, I arrived at the rental lot, and located my assigned vehicle.  After a thorough walkaround, I found the vehicle without visual blemish, so I loaded my luggage, powered up my GPS, checked and aligned my mirrors.  I started the gear, put it in gear to back out of the stall.  As I applied the brakes, I heard a grating from the driver's side rear tire.  I repeated the process, to found the same symptom.

I re-parked the car, and went to the office to report the damage, and request a replacement vehicle.

One was provided.  I walked around that vehicle, and did the same checks.  This vehicle passed visual inspection, as well as mechanical, as I exited the rental facility, and drove to the office.

The changeover took extra time, but better to be a bit late, and arrive safe.  As an added precaution, I avoided the Chevy initially offered...
