I was looking for topics for our safety meetings and I came
across a website called Safety Toolbox Talks. http://safetytoolboxtopics.com/Toolbox-Talks/
It has several topics with regards to safety.
One I found that I wanted to share with everyone is called 4
Seconds to Safety. It starts off talks
about how we have tools like Field Level Risk Assessments or Job Hazards
Analysis, which we all know as R.A.D.A.R. These tools are designed to make everyone stop and think about the
different risks associated with the task about to be done.
In the article
The 4 seconds to Safety http://safetytoolboxtopics.com/General/four-secnds-to-safety.html
is an assessment that can be done in a
shop, when starting or changing to a new familiar task. As I read through it I thought this could be
used by all when we are doing day-to-day task at the office or in our homes.
Simply take a four second pause “reset” and refocus to the task at hand. It is usually
not the task itself but some small thing you did not anticipate that causes the
incident.
For our
next safety meeting think about the task we do day-in and day-out, that are
almost routine for us. Could we all benefit from taking a 4 second pause to
refocus on the task at hand? What was the task and did you identify any potential
hazards?
