It’s that time of year again…for most of us anyway. Before it gets too much further into the
season, it is important to winterize your home.

Additional items that might get overlooked include turning off water
valves to outdoor spigots or sprinklers, investing in thermal-rated curtains, cleaning
out gutters (especially after all the leaves have fallen), stocking up on salt
melt, and testing (and refueling) back-up generators. For your car, make sure to replenish window
wiper fluid with a de-icing variety and make sure to regularly refill your gas
tank. Most mechanics recommend keeping
it above a quarter tank but I usually keep it at least half full in case of an
emergency.
