While at a recent event for 84Lumber, in Danville, IN, we arrived at the site, to see the yard in quite a disorganized state. Product was somewhat organized by product technology, but not really organized more than that. Loose products were stacked together in piles. The loose piles created a safety hazard, when attempting to pick or cut product, to fill orders. Management at this yard has had some turnover. Priority to clean up the yard has been a want, not a need. One of the root causes for this upset condition was the lack of basic tools (tape measure, marker/crayon/spray paint, forklift). Another cause was overall lack of space. The yard was filled with unusable material that had not been disposed of (cull), wasting valuable space.
While the yard crew understood the situation needed resolution, they were busy trying to fill orders, and couldn't put much time to cleaning up the yard. Slowly, but surely, they were able to organize an area for Drops, less than 16'.
