Contractors working on personal property - Trust but verify...

We recently had a tree trimming org come to our personal property to perform some trimmings up to 60’ off the ground. I observed the “high-work” guys had appropriate ppe, but the ground guys would tend to take their hats off and walk where they should not into the “drop zone”…. I immediately went to the super and asked to stop work for a moment, then told all “If you would like to complete this job, then here are the rules…”  Two of the guys honestly said their hat liners were worn out and uncomfortable while looking up… I happen to have a couple of generic hard hats, which they were promptly given to wear…. The super appreciated the discussion and willingness to care and assist…. Tensions were eased and the work safely resumed…. Be sure contractors you hire are properly insured/bonded & follow at least OSHA requirements... Next time, I will have the conversation up front during initial negotiations.
